Massive Wagons live at Nottingham Rock City, Friday, November 22

Charging across the stage, spinning the mic stand, setting sail in a dinghy and high kicking all over the place, Baz Mills has possibly reached peak frontman. With no musical instrument to get in his way, master of crowd (un) control Baz pings from side to side like a lead singer possessed. He hardly takes his eyes from the audience who have packed out Rock City, completely engaging each and every one of them in his band’s good fun, zero f***s, see ya through bad times rock and roll.

New songs from latest release ‘Earth To Grace’ stand strong alongside the well-stablished faves like ‘A.S.S.H.O.L.E.’ and legendary ‘F**k The Haters’. These two tracks get such a loud singalong response that Baz could nip off and go see the sights of Nottingham for a bit – his vocals aren’t needed. But Baz himself is. He wants to shoulder all the woes of his fans. All night his face is full of emotion. His voice rings out clear as a bell and is pretty much pitch perfect. But it’s the concern, the care, and the vibe of longing to take his crowd to a better place for their 90 minute set that comes across really REALLY loud. Dedicating ‘Night Skies’ to, ‘Anyone who’s struggling’, the pace slows a little. Baz stills slightly. It’s this loss of movement for this touching song that, again, communicates louder than the lyrics tonight. ‘Sleep Forever’ gets rammed down the crowd’s eager throats with all the might Massive Wagons possess, including rock godin’ guitar soloin’ and that killer doomy outro that makes you go, ‘Ooooooffffffff’. God knows how many gears Massive Wagons have, because they shift up energy levels song after song. A proper live band through and through, Massive Wagons have the songs, the support and a Baz Mills. And that’s a combination that’s always gonna deliver.
